Observations!

Team Soc,

This weekend will be our first venture into practicing what we will learn is the "Sociological Perspective": seeing the general in the particular and the strange in the familiar.

As you go about this weekend, truly see what is before you - especially in how we as humans act. We want to learn to go through life not merely as passive recipients, but as active members who are cognizant of what is going on around us. Therefore observe and do not only see.

Create a Doc called "Observations" and place it in the folder you shared with me (last, first #). In this Doc write the date and record your three observations of the strange in the familiar. Be sure your observations are thoughtful and you express them thoroughly.

And I look forward to reading your insight!

Google Folders

You have now received from me a folder called "Sociology". Be sure to move this folder to your "My Drive". When I place files into this folder, you will have access to them.

As I explained in class, you need to create a folder shared with me with called "Last, First #". Please share this folder with me (joshdavis@mvcs.org) with editing privileges.

If you want to create another folder in which you place these two folders, you can thereby keep your Soc files all in one.

How do I access the forms?

It was brought to my attention that many of you were having difficulty accessing the Syllabus and Introductions Forms found here on the blog. Thanks for pointing this out!

This is the solution:
 - You must be signed into your gmail/school email account to access the forms. So whether you are on a computer or your iPad you need to be signed into you gmail account. If you are on your iPad, open the Safari browser and sign into gmail (I know this is redundant if you have it on your email app and I am sorry about this redundancy) and then open another tab with this blog. When you click on the links they will then work.

Hopefully this will solve the problem. If you still have issues, let me know. Or if you know of a simpler way, let me know.

Welcome to Sociology!

I am excited to have you in my class this year and I look forward to the interactions we will have together and with the class. This will be a good year of learning together.

Thought this is an elective and we will not have much homework, my expectations for you this year are extremely high. However, I am confident you will be able to meet them. If you have any questions along this exciting journey God has placed us on, do not hesitate to ask.

To Do:

By the third day of class (Monday) you need:

• your school email up and running; know your password; have your email set up on your iPad
• access to Focus; know your password and understand your way around
• to read the syllabus and sign the confirmation form
• to fill out the introductions form

Apps you need to have on your iPad:

• Notability (or a similar word processing app)
• iMovie (or another movie making app)
• (Google) Drive
• (Google) Docs

Be sure you have a stylus if you will want to write on your iPad.
